Final exam: Pre-discussion

  1. Should government be responsible for keeping consumers safe?

Definitively I believe that government should control and regulate large consume products in each market place. For example food regulation is one of the most important responsibilities of the government, especially for imported goods because they should respect the standards of the country. Also, government’s control permits to keep industrial standards across the country.

  1. Should the business involved be responsible foe keeping the consumer safe? What is the goal of business in society?

Yes, definitively companies must take the responsibility to keep the consumer safe. They should apply the government standards and respect the law. In the modern and democratic society companies must grow and survive the competition; on the other hand they should provide good quality to consumers.

Research Paper:
1. Do you think your writing has improved overall by doing this paper? Explain.
Of course my writing has improved by doing the research paper. Every writing that I do helped me to improve my writing skill. In this case, because I had to paraphrase, my vocabulary and my level of language have improved while looking for other words. I learned many new words, even I do not use them all the time.

2. What are some of the skills you improved in while doing the paper?

How I already mentioned, my writing has improved, but also my reading and my speaking.
By reading all this articles and the chapter on the book, I learned how to read more quickly and efficiently. To survey is a very important step on reading. It helps me to have a general overview of what the article is going to be about and to select the most important information. I definitevely believe that my reading has improved .

3. How do you feel about your paper?
I very happy and pleasant with my research paper. Maybe is not as good as a paper made by a professional in the field( because is very scientific), but I think the reader is able to get a lot valuable information about anemia disease even from my paper.

Presentations
1. Did you enjoy listening to the presentations.
Ohh yes!!!! Everyone has done a very good job and prepared very well the presentation. The presentations were all very different and I learned a lot from all af them. This helped me to improve my knowledge in many fields.

2. What did you learn about presentation techniques while listening to them.
I learned that doesn't matter the method you use to present, a very important element for a successful performance is eye contact but also the tone of voice. Looking at all the people in the audience, makes every person to listen more carefully. If the presentor looks only at some people, the others will lose their interest and get bored.

3. What did you learn during the process of preparing for your presentations?

I leraned that is very important to control your stress and that the tone of voice and the command of the subject are very important. If you know very well your information and you understand what you are talking about, the others will understand too.

4. Were you satisfied with you own presentstion?
Yes, even I do not use power points, which it seems to be very useful for a good performance, I believed that my audience got some good information about anemia disease. Anyway, I tried to do my best.

Improving Academic Performance

Such an interesting topic!!! It makes me think about my self in present and in the past, especially the period at the beginning of the high school. In general I am an organized person, who plan things and scheduled. However, I also had a period where I was more a procrastinated person.
When I was young (high school period), I thought that because I'm paying all my attention during the class time and I have a good memory, I do not have to study very hard. I was wrong, because sometimes my results could be much better if I was studying more. Anyway, I have changed; this was only a short period. I use to make a plan while I am studying, and I prefer to do it by small section. I never memorize things, only if it is really necessary. My strategy is to understand what I am talking about. Sleeping is also a very important element for me while I am studying. If I am too tired, I can't concentrate and it is a waste of time too tries to push my limits. In general I prefer a quite place for studying, library if possible than home. At home, I am more likely to be disturbed and interrupt my period of studying. Everything around me need to be in order and well organized. My sister’s strategy is completely different. She prefers to study on her bed with many books around in a very big mess. I never could understand her method, but it seems that it works very well for her. Both of us recite while we are studying, in that way we can understand ourselves and notice the errors. Attending class I think is very important. I prefer to do it, in that way I can visualize and understand better, even sometimes the professor is hard to understand. There are always questions asked by yourself or other people that may help you clarifying the misunderstandings.
This article is very useful, but also it depends on the person, we are not the same and do not have the same capacity to assimilate information. However, one thing is sure, even if you are very smart do not wait until the last minute, you never know what can happen and you do not have time to prepare the exam. A Romanian proverb says: "Don't let for tomorrow what you can do today!!!"

Public Lecture Project

Several weeks ago, I went to a lecture at Jewis Hospital with Eriko, Khuloud and Alex. The topic was Alzheimer disease. I already knew a little beat about this diasease, but the lecture helped me to improve a lot my knowledge, even sometimes wasn't easy to follow.
The speaker presented very well, in a manner that even we as ageneral public were able to understand the main ideas. He used a lot of examples and even few jokes to make it more interesting.
I enjoyed this project, it is exciting to go out to find information and then go back and let the others know about it.

Population-post discussion

I really learned many interesting things about population topic. I only knew that there is a big problem with the population in China and it is controled ,and in developing countries but not at this point. I was very impressed about the women' situation in Sub-Sahara Africa. It is really important that they get educated so they can help themselves first, and then the entire nation.
Another thing that I was surprised to learn about it , is about Japan, I didn't even think that they have a very low birth rate. Solutions are needed to help saulving the problem in both sides , that's for sure.

Population

1. My grandparents have 6 children(both sides have 3 children).
My parents have 4 children, and me a would loke to have 2 or 3. The first one is already on the road...

2.The population of my country is aproximatively 22.3 million. The population doesn't have a negative impact on the worste conditions of the country , because the number is normal for the area oh the country.

3.The earth's population now is estimated at 6.7 billion.

4.There are human factors that have a negative impact on population of animal species like: hunting , fishing or illegal trade .However there are human factors that control and defend species. Human legislation imposes laws in the regulation of animals for huntin and fishing. It is forbidden to hunt during the reproduction period.

5. In general, governments shoud not control population growth. However , in countries like China this is necessary because is affecting on people life-style. Also, in poor countries where the population is high , the government should control it, for a better quality of life.

Happiness-feedback

Happiness !!!
Such a nice and interesting topic. I remember at the beginning of this topic we all have more or less one idea about what is happiness , but I didn't really know that specialists are still struggling today to find answers at this abstract subject. As we learn in the two article there are many factors that contribue or not on achieving happiness.About what I was more surprized is that my theory about happiness is stated in one of the article but in the opposite side. I always related happiness with achieving goals, but I never tryed to think more... so , if we don't achieve , how we call this , and why achieving goals is equal with happiness???
I really enjoyed this topic , the way that we work on it and the information that I got.

Skyscrapers

The term "skyscraper" was used in 1880; after the first tall buildings were build in the United States. But the history of tall buildings dates back hundreds of years in the Middle Ages were engineers have engaged in a battle for the sky.

Before there were towers made of heavy stone. Towers had thick walls and the rooms were dark and overcrowded. Windows weren’t very common, it could disadvantage the structure.

With the discovery of the steel begin the new era of modern skyscrapers. The Home Insurance Building in Chicago was the first tall building to be made on a steel skeleton of vertical columns and horizontal beams.

New structural designs made skyscrapers even lighter and stronger. As skyscrapers get taller and taller, engineers were faced with a new problem: the wind. Today's tallest skyscrapers, which are almost 1,500 feet tall, must be 50 times stronger against wind than the typical 200-foot buildings of the 1940s.

Skyscrapers represent the big issue for the population explosion in our days. In my opinion skyscrapers is a good think because it permits to locate a big number of people in one place into the profit of green spaces that can be saved.
